The Sally Awards in 2018
More than 500 supporters of The Salvation Army gathered in the Four Seasons Beverly Hills Hotel ballroom to honor Lakers’ CEO and Governor Jeanie Buss, as she received the 2018 Sally Award from The Salvation Army’s California South Division. Long-time supporter of The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Community Center in Pico Union, Ms. Buss expressed deep appreciation for the honor and renewed her and her team’s commitment to The Salvation Army. The night of celebration included a major fund-raising effort that raised more than $800,000 for Salvation Army programs across the Southland helping the homeless, veterans, and families.
Lakers superstar Magic Johnson sent well wishes via video as did Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti and Lakers greats AC Green and Kurt Rambis attended. Also honored this night was the late federal jurist Judge Harry Pregerson for his incredible contribution establishing The Salvation Army’s Westwood Transitional Village and Bell Shelter programs established.
Producers of the hit inspirational film “I Can Only Imagine” – Cindy Bond and Kevin Downes were recognized by The Salvation Army for their “art with a spiritual conscience”. Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz expertly handled MC duties, keeping things lively as VIPs in the room learned how The Salvation Army changes lives by providing more than 300,000 nights of shelter to the homeless, more than 1 million meals to the hungry and summer camp and youth programs that impact the lives of more than 50,000 children every year.
You can experience the Sally Awards yourself next June as the 2019 Sally Awards will return to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel with another star-studded gala honoring Men and Women of prominence who give so much of their time talent and treasure in the service of others.
